This followed the airing of the documentary "All The Prime Minister's Men," which exposed state-sponsored corruption involving General Aziz Ahmed and his brother. Despite recommendations to litigate, the regime ultimately did not pursue legal proceedings in the UK but attempted to pressure YouTube and Facebook to remove the documentary.
Acquittal of Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia: On January 15, 2025, Bangladesh's Supreme Court acquitted former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in a 2008 corruption case, overturning her previous 10-year sentence. This decision allows her to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Khaleda and her son Tarique Rahman were accused of embezzling funds intended for an orphanage trust during her tenure from 2001 to 2006. In recent months, Khaleda was also acquitted of other corruption charges and had been flown to London for medical treatment.
Extradition Request for Ousted Leader Sheikh Hasina: Bangladesh has formally requested India to extradite ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to New Delhi in August following student-led protests that ended her 15-year tenure. Hasina faces numerous charges, including crimes against humanity, related to deaths during the uprising. The International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka has issued arrest warrants for Hasina and sought Interpol's assistance. Interim leader Muhammad Yunus has stated his administration's intention to extradite Hasina.
